Style: Red Wine
Producer: Heitz Cellar
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon
Where: Napa Valley, California

Taste: The 2018 Vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon will be remembered for the mild summer and near-perfect fall we experienced in Napa Valley. These vintage conditions allowed for the patient development of fruit and tannin, creating the elegant style for which Heitz Cellar is renowned. In this wine, we see timeless characteristics of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, such as soft black and red fruits, cedar, and sandalwood, supported by herbs de Provence.

"Deep black-currant and blackberry flavors come with a warm, rounded texture bolstered by fine-grained tannins in this concentrated and mouth-filling wine. Hints of mint and dark chocolate enhance the aroma and continue through the finish. Best 2025–2035. Jim Gordon" - 92/100, Wine Enthusiast
Vibes with: ribeye steak, veal, rich pastas

Additional Info:
Aged in a compination of new and used large oak casks and smaller barriques for two years with an additional year of bottle age before release.
The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced promaritly from out two vineyards in St. Helena. While this wine can age for decades, it is intended to be an exceptional entry point into the classic Heitz style and hints at what can be experienced with our single vineyard wines. To craft a wine tht can be enjoyed upon release, we farm these blocks to be harvested earlier in the year and age the wines in a very small percentage of new oak.

Family owned since its founding in 1961, Heitz Cellar’s legacy runs as deep as the roots throughout the Napa Valley; a winery legend that has helped shape the history of Napa Valley winemaking. In the late 1950s, pioneering vintner Joe Heitz ushered in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally celebrated wines, including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon, the renowned Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard. Fifty-eight years of the Heitz family’s dedication to viticulture, stewardship, and classic winemaking maintained the winery’s notoriety as a benchmark amongst its peers in California and Europe.
In April 2018, Heitz Cellar entered an exciting new chapter as this rich legacy was passed into the hands of the Lawrence family, whose deep roots in agriculture and commitment to the same core values of fine winemaking made it a perfect match. The wines are made with an unwavering commitment to quality from organically farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit, and a commitment to the sustainability of Napa Valley.
Our prized estate vineyards are planted in six of Napa Valley’s sub-appellations: Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, Oak Knoll District, and Calistoga, giving us an incredible breadth of diversity in terroir, allowing us to craft wines that are a pure representation of place. Their roots keep us grounded to the entirety of Napa Valley and at the same time, keep us mindful of our responsibility to maintain a sustainable environment. We are proud to be a leader in agricultural stewardship as 100% of our vineyards are grown certified CCOF organic, with a move towards biodynamic farming in the near future.
We at Heitz Cellar cherish our history and legacy, with a full commitment to our vision and goals to maintain the winery’s heritage.
